Welcome to the Memphis campus of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.  Three fully integrated campuses (Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga) constitute the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. The largest of the UT Medical Campus locations is Memphis. The first two years of Medical Student training are spent on the Memphis campus with a large portion of the clinical training being performed in our Memphis affiliated hospitals. Memphis is also the site of our largest Graduate Medical Education (GME), Research, and Clinical programs.
There are over 630 full-time faculty in the 25 departments on our Memphis Campus. The faculty is involved in 54 GME Programs for over approximately 700 residents and fellows; in addition to their clinical practices and active research programs. Our primary teaching hospitals, Methodist University Hospital, The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Methodist-Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and The Regional Medical Center of Memphis (The MED) serve as our primary downtown-midtown teaching hospitals. Suburban teaching sites such as the Baptist Medical Center and St. Francis Medical Center, also serve as the base for practice and training. Methodist University Hospital
The practice plans of our physicians (University of Tennessee Medical Group, Inc., and the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute) generate over $160 million annually to the College's budget. In addition, tightly affiliated practices such as Nationally noted Campbell Clinic in Orthopedics and Semmes Murphy Clinic in Neurosurgery and others also contain our full time faculty.  The Hamilton Eye Institute serves as a model of integrated clinical care and research, while our Trauma Center, Transplant Institute, children’s and perinatal services are nationally acclaimed.
The Colleges’ research programs are primarily based on the Memphis Campus and generate over $70 million in research revenue annually. National stature in Cardiovascular, Neuroscience, Genetic, and Infectious Disease research is present on the campus. Interdisciplinary research in the Center for Integrative and Translational Genomics, the Cancer Research Center, and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute are growing.   A new Level III Biocontainment Laboratory has just been built and ongoing joint ventures with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are underway.
