Welcome to College of Medicine - Memphis
The University of Tennessee College of Medicine is part of the University
of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). Three fully integrated campuses
(Memphis, Knoxville, and Chattanooga) constitute the University of Tennessee
College of Medicine. The College offers programs (educational link here) leading
to the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. The educational program is 155 weeks
in length with the first fifty-five weeks (basic sciences) currently being
taken in Memphis. There are over 600 full-time faculty in the twenty-three
departments on our Memphis Campus who provide this instruction as well as that
of the clerkship and electives in the clinical sciences. These faculty are
also involved in 43 Postgraduate Medical Education Programs for over 600 resident
in addition to their clinical practices and active research programs. The practice
plan of our physicians generates over $100 million to the College's annual
budget and the research programs, over $50 million. Third and fourth year students
from the College of Medicine can rotate on all three Campuses as well as other
training areas throughout the State. Clearly the variety of academic programs
that the College has across the state is a real strength for medical students,
residents in postgraduate education and patient care.
