About the Office
Welcome to the College of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs
The Office of Faculty Affairs is responsible for issues relating to the COM faculty including recruitment, orientation, faculty development, the development and interpretation of policies and procedures for promotion and tenure, supporting the work of the COM Academic Appointments, Promotion and Tenure Committee (CAPT), grievance and appeal procedures, annual faculty performance evaluation, annual reappointment letters, and faculty retention.
To the left are links to COM By-Laws and the UTHSC Faculty Handbook. These documents give the policies of COM and UTHSC under which all of COM works.
For a better understanding of COM promotion and tenure, select "Promotion and Tenure" and look at the recently completed Insider's Guide to Promotion at UTHSC COM. It gives an overview, FAQs, and describes the "metrics" in detail.
Also to the left are links to a host of forms needed by departmental Business Managers and Chairs in order to recruit, appoint, promote, and evaluate faculty.

Finally, below you will find links to informative columns by the COM Executive Dean, Steve Schwab. The Office of Faculty Affairs is working to further improve communication between faculty and administration. One avenue to do this is the monthly column in which Dr Schwab addresses issues raised by the faculty.
